5 Secrets of the Pros for Writing Effective Press Releases
Hello everyone,
Mark Bauer here. I’m the guy that approves all press releases on our website- scoffing at them like a 1920’s New York Times editor- Saying, “If only they knew what I know!!!”
Well, as Press Release Monkey’s most feared editor, I’m opening up my book of secrets to you for effective press release marketing. Use these techniques and you’ll get your press releases more reads, more click throughs, and of course, more sales!
So here are 5 secret tricks for effective press release writing:
Secret 1 – Use numerical values in the titles of your press releases. This catches your reader’s eye and has been statistically proven to attract more reads. Which press release would you rather read: “New Program Helps Dieters Lose More Weight,” or “New Program Helps Dieters Lose 5 Times More Weight?”
Secret 2 – End the first paragraph of your press release with a question. Why?
Because it makes the person read down to the next paragraph to get the answer (just like you read down to this paragraph), and makes it that much more likely that they will read down to your boiler plate. “Wait, what’s a boiler plate?”
Secret 3 – Use a boiler plate. (Ah ha, I got you to read down again!). A boiler plate is the information you provide about your company at the bottom of your press release. A boiler plate makes it many times more likely that editors will accept your press release and want to run it on their network. Remember, we’re not only writing for our audience, but we’re writing for editors as well; and more syndication equals more reads!
Secret 4 – Don’t go over 400 words with your press releases. Imagine your audience like an impatient Russian cage fighter waiting for his steak. Be short, simple, and offer them something good that they can really sink their teeth into.
Secret 5 – Relate to the struggles of your readers in the first few paragraphs of your press release. When you own a website you are basically there to help your customers either solve a problem or satisfy a desire. So use that dynamic to your advantage by talking about why their lives are incomplete without your product/service. You don’t have to say this verbatim, but relate it through your story. For example- “More and more internet marketers are looking for ways to get traffic….In response to this demand, Press Release Monkey is announcing their distribution packages that generate huge spikes in traffic for their clients…” =)
All in all, the most important part of your press release is its ability to hold your readers’ attention. If you can do that, then your press releases will be that much more successful.
